Baekyeol fun times 8D ENJOY.

Baekhyun easily came to the conclusion that his boyfriend was, in fact, a complete idiot.

Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop in Hogsmeade was overrun with students, mainly couples enjoying their Valentine’s Day festivities that happened to coincide with a schedule Hogsmeade visit.

The café was a popular date spot. Boys had sent owls weeks ago in hopes of snagging reservations. Chanyeol had been one of those boys. When he’d told Baekhyun that he had a surprise for him on the romantic holiday, this definitely wasn’t what Baekhyun had anticipated. Still, he went along with Chanyeol’s plans. It was easier than arguing but, in the end, it was a decision Baekhyun regretted deeply.

By the time they were seated at a table, the snow outside had finally dissipated to a slow fall, with soft flakes whipping around occasionally due to the breeze. Baekhyun stared longingly out the front window, wishing he could be freezing outside instead of sitting at the gaudiest table setting he had ever seen in his entire life. There were doilies for fuck’s sake. Doilies.

Looking up, he visibly cringed at the decorative hearts accompanied by sparkles that were floating from table to table just a few feet over the patron’s heads helping to set the mood. Baekhyun was sure he sighed at least six times before a tackily dressed waitress came over to take their order.

“What can I get you boys?”

“A hot chocolate for me, and a latte with two sugars for my crank-face date.”

“Date?” The waitress looked towards Baekhyun, then back to Chanyeol. “Did you both get stood up?” She giggled at them.

“Nope!” Chanyeol proudly beamed. “He’s my date.”

Baekhyun hid his face in his house scarf, which was still wrapped around his neck while the girl looked befuddled momentarily, before realization dawned on her features.

“Oh!” She nodded. “Well, I’ll be right back with your drinks, then.” With that, she turned and headed off to place their order.

Baekhyun had tuned out what Chanyeol was chatting on about by the time their drinks arrived. He begrudgingly sipped his latte, sinking down lower in his seat. Thankfully, most of the couples were too preoccupied being disgustingly lovey-dovey to notice the two boys sitting together. Normally, he wouldn’t care about being spotted with his best friend. They spent almost all their time together after all. Though, something about being seen here, alone, with Chanyeol, really made Baekhyun feel self-conscious.

“I hate you, you know that, right?”

“You don’t mean that.” Chanyeol’s grin was far too wide. It only annoyed Baekhyun further.

“Given the present situation? I definitely mean it.” Baekhyun scowled.

Chanyeol had the audacity to snort at his remark, and Baekhyun vowed he was going to murder him once they were alone again. No witnesses.

The rest of their Hogsmeade visit went by fairly uneventfully. In Honeydukes, Chanyeol insisted on buying chocolates, promising that they were for them to share and were most definitely not a Valentine’s Day gift. “No gifts” was the rule they agreed upon weeks ago.

Baekhyun knew he was being selfish, and that Chanyeol loved giving gifts, but he didn’t want things between them to become awkward. It wasn’t because Baekhyun was embarrassed of his relationship with Chanyeol; he just hated making a big deal of it. He wanted to keep things between them as casual and low key as possible. Even if they both knew deeper feelings of affection surfaced more times than not.

On the way back to the castle, Baekhyun actually allowed Chanyeol to hold his glove covered hand, walking close by his far taller companion. Baekhyun’s face was flushed, but he convinced himself it was due solely to the cold air.

While on the pathway back, he noticed their friend Kai, trudging through the snow, chasing after some poor Hufflepuff kid who seemed to be trying to escape in quite a hurry. That poor unfortunate soul, he thought, shaking his head with a quiet laugh. Come to think of it, he was the same doe-eyed boy Kai was stalking in the library earlier that week. He was a prefect, or something. Later, Baekhyun decided, he would grill his friend about this.

After dinner, full of pot pie and chocolate cake, they returned to Gryffindor tower. Baekhyun sat atop his bed with his Arithmancy textbook propped open in his lap. Ever since they came back to the dormitory, Chanyeol had been scarce, popping in every once in a while and making up some dumb excuse about having to go help Suho out. What could Suho possibly need from that idiot? Well, it wasn’t his problem. However, finishing his studies was.

He was sure he had read the same sentence no less than twelve times now when Chanyeol finally reappeared.

“How goes the homework?” Chanyeol asked sheepishly, closing the door behind him and coming to sit on his bed, which was next to Baekhyun’s.

“Sucks.” Baekhyun didn’t look up from his book.

“Oh. Well yeah.” Chanyeol rubbed the back of his neck, smile never dropping from his face. “Thanks for humouring me this afternoon; I’m sure you thought it was pretty lame.”

“Whatever.” His tone sounded harsher than he intended it to, so he added “it’s no big deal,” to try and soften his statement. He even gave a tentative smile, once he finally looked up from his book. Chanyeol’s face looked worried and it made Baekhyun nervous.

“Don’t get mad at me but—“

“What did you do now?” Baekhyun cut him off.

Fumbling with his sweater, Chanyeol reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box that was wrapped with uneven ribbon and a squashed bow. Baekhyun glared at it suspiciously before raising an eyebrow.

“Is that a Valentine’s Day present? Cause if it is, I’m going to chuck it at your face.” Baekhyun pointed a threatening finger at him. “You’ve been warned.”

“No!” Chanyeol cleared his throat. “It’s a, my-boyfriend-is-really-great-so-I-wanted-to-buy-him-something-nice present. It just so happens I’m giving it to you on Valentine’s Day because.”

Baekhyun eyed him warily.

“Come on Baek, don’t be like that. It’s just a little something, okay? Open it, please?” Chanyeol was doing that eager puppy thing that Baekhyun had a painfully hard time refusing.

Heaving a sigh of true martyrdom, he closed the book, slid his legs off the edge of the bed and reached over to pluck the small package away from Chanyeol.

“The things I do for you…” He muttered, turning the item over in his hands. It looked like a small jewelry box. Delicate fingers tugged at the haphazard wrappings until they fell away and he opened it. Inside was a small, plain, silver coloured hexagon pendant attached to a string. Baekhyun had no idea what it even was, but it looked like one of those cell phone straps his mother had on her phone. Holding it by the string, he examined it.

“It’s so cool.” Chanyeol was excited.

“I don’t even know what ‘it’ is.” Baekhyun’s voice was deadpan.

“It’s a wand charm.” He spoke matter-of-factly with a click of his tongue. “The girl at the store said they’re super popular in Japan and Korea right now, but they’re starting to catch on everywhere. This one is especially cool though ‘cause it starts off just plain, yeah? But once you put it on, it like, ’reads’ your wand, or something and it changes shape. There’s a whole bunch of general shapes, but each one is unique to the person, so no two are identical! At least, that’s how she explained it.”

Baekhyun stared at him blankly.

“Here, look.” Frustrated, Chanyeol reached into his back pocket to pull out his wand. “I bought one for myself too, see,” the small charm dangling from the end of his wand was shaped like a bird. “Mine was just like yours looks now, but after I put it on it changed into this. She said it’s a phoenix?  I’ve got a book that explains the shape meanings too…” Chanyeol trailed off.

“Just, wait a sec.” Chanyeol went to his trunk, digging around in there before producing a small black leather bound book. Moving back to the bed, he sat next to Baekhyun this time, wand in hand as he thumbed through the pages.  He turned to the section marked ”Birds” and Chanyeol kept flipping pages until there was a heading that said: The Phoenix. The shape there looked like a vaguely stylized version of the charm on Chanyeol’s wand. Clearing his throat, he read out loud:

The Phoenix.

Phoenixes are one of the rarest of the bird category. Phoenixes are fierce in their love and loyal to those they care for. They have warm, hospitable personalities and are usually social butterflies. Phoeni---

“So, it’s like some kind of Divinations crap?” Baekhyun questioned, interrupting him.

“No it’s more like, it reads your personality through your wand type, I guess? Like the way a wand chooses you.” Baekhyun looked skeptical. “Just put it on,” Chanyeol whined.

Turning the small gift over in his hand, he shrugged, reaching over to his nightstand to get his wand. Once the charm was set onto the end, the metal started to glow with a pale shimmering light. Baekhyun squinted at it, trying to make out whatever shape it was morphing into but couldn’t tell until it was done.

It was a star—of some sort. It had a hollow center and 8 points ending with small circles, and smaller points in between them.

Chanyeol turned to the section named “Celestial Bodies” and found the category for stars.

You are the light of someone’s life! There are many stars out there, but each one has something in common; that you are very special to someone.

Baekhyun was blushing by the time he finished reading the first line out loud, and when he looked up, he found his boyfriend was also red in the face. Not reading any further, he pulled the book, along the other boy’s wand from his hand and placed it with his own on the bed. He stood between Chanyeol’s knees from where he was seated, effortlessly sliding arms around his neck and leaned in to kiss him on the corner of his mouth. Chanyeol’s hands came up to rest on the standing figure’s waist.

“I’ve decided I don’t hate you.” His boyfriend may have been a complete idiot, but Baekhyun adored him.
